KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) is known for its rich mix of cultural influences with diverse musical styles as its landscape for decades. A breeding ground for many of South Africa’s musical icons, including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Gangs of Ballet, Black Coffee, Big Nuz and so many more, the province is a significant vehicle for music education in various forms and mediums. Nabak Arts, a non-profit company dedicated to the development of Music Education in South Africa, with its strong ties to the UKZN Jazz & Popular music programme, is serious about its commitment to developing and growing young musical talent in KZN schools. This forms the impetus for the launch of the KZN Schools Jazz & Rock Musical Festival.
NABAK ARTS
NABAK ARTS was founded to develop music education programmes in and around KZN. Local musicians and music educators are solicited to train and develop music performance programmes and workshops. The purpose of the NPC is to raise funds to assist with these programmes ultimately feeding qualified musicians into the South African music industry.
Externally, the backbone of the entire company is centered on developing community awareness of the importance and benefits of music education and live music performance. All individuals are given fair chance and opportunities to participate in these programmes.
Our Mission
Nabak Arts is a non-profit company dedicated to the development of music education programmes, music performance and production.
Our Vision
To develop music education programmes in and around KwaZulu Natal, extending to South Africa, specifically focused on the genres of Jazz and Rock Music.
Purpose
The backbone of the entire organization is centered on building community awareness of the importance of music education and its impact on youth development. Inherently, the programmes provide relatively easy access to music education and live musical entertainment not normally accessible to KwaZulu Natal. Ultimately, the full purpose of Nabak Arts is to engage people in attending, performing in, and participating in the creation of music that appeals to the broader common interest of the community at large.
